SPECTRE misses out on BAFTA nominations

The award season is about to kick off with two of the most important award galas of the film industry being held next month. While the voting for this year’s Academy Awards closed on Friday, the BAFTA nominations have been announced for the ceremony at London’s Royal Opera House on February 14. Surprisingly, the latest Bond film “Spectre” has not received a BAFTA nomination, despite being one of the most successful British films in 2015.

While it was not expected that the spy thriller starring Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux and Monica Bellucci would earn nominations for its actors, a nod to the fantastic work of the technical departments would have been most welcomed. The previous Bond film “Skyfall” (2012) had won a BAFTA for the best British film in 2013, leaving open the question why the newest entry to the longstanding film franchise is not at all nominated this year. BAFTA chief Amanda Berry said it would be difficult for returning films to earn nominations although the Harry Potter franchise would be an exception.
