Sean Connery puts diamonds up for auction

Scottish actor Sean Connery, famous for being the first actor to portray secret agent 007 on screen, will be selling two jewels this week at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva on Wednesday November 11. The film star, now aged 85, starred in six official James Bond films with, ironically, “Diamonds Are Forever” being his final one in 1971.

The first of Connery’s precious gems about to be auctioned is a pear-shaped 15.2 carat orange pink diamond estimated at $ 1,208,3292,416,658 and will probably fetch $ 2 million easily. It will be auctioned as lot 505.

The second item is a size 52 diamond ring, set with a pear-shaped 5.18 carat white diamond. It is estimated at $ 150,783253,026 and will be auctioned as lot 506.

Not only has the value of colored diamonds doubled in the last two decades due to their rarity, they are also seen as a sound investment by the elite who can afford them. “If you look at diamond prices, a diamond that was making $200,000 dollars a carat is now making £2 million dollars a carat. That hasn’t happened in other asset class, or any other investment,” explains Rahul Kadakia, the International Head of Jewellery at Christie’s.
